(유용한 영어표현) "속으로 생각하다" 영어로 "I think to myself"

우리가 실생활에서 많이 쓰는 표현 중 하나인

" 어 나 그땐 그렇게 속으로 생각했어...." 어떻게 영어로 표현하면 좋을지 알아볼께요

 

 # 나 속으로 이렇게 생각했었어 영어로!!

 

"I thought to myself at that time that he was right"

 

(You can use this when you want to express that you are considering something internally)

# 우리가 실생활에서 주로 쓸 수 있는 예문들을 한 번 살펴볼께요.

 

• I was thinking to myself  that is the ugly building
• Yes I am thinking to myself, someday I can do that.
• I'm thinking to myself: why does it take so long to finish it?
• When I'm out there, I'm thinking to myself: I'm a rare breed.

 

여기서 보시면 아시겠지만, 주로 진행형형태로 많이 쓰이는 걸 보실 수 있어요. 

우리가 주로 쓰는 I think that~~~, I thought that~~ 에 

나 스스로에게(나 마음속으로) to myself를 붙여서 좀 더 풍부한 표현을 할 수 있어요.

 

 

# "생각이 났어" 는 come to mind

 

여러분 갑자기 회의 하다가, 아니면 친구와 얘기하는 중에 

아 맞아 나 좋은 생각이 났어!!

이렇게 표현하는 경우 많으시죠! 이럴땐 이렇게 표현해 보세요!

 

"A good idea came to mind"

 

여기서 mind는 내 마음보다는 내 머릿속이라고 생각하시면 좋을 것 같아요.

좋은 아이디어가 내 머릿속에 (갑자기) 들어왔다는 거예요. 

 

Her name came to mind.

갑자기 누구를 만났는데 이름이 생각이 안난다면 이렇게 말할 수 있겠죠?

I am sorry that your name does not come to mind? Could you let me know your name again?

 

한가지 주의할 점은 my나 your같은 소유격을 같이 사용하지 않아요.

come to my mind. => come to mind

 

 

# "생각이 났어" 는 come to mind 와 come up with 어떻게 달라요?

 

구글에 서치를 해보니 이렇게 차이점을 구분해 주네요.

 

Come to mind is passive. The idea comes to you.

Come up with is ususlly a plan of action. It's active.

 

 

예를 들어서 한 번 볼께요

 

"come to mind"

• When I think about the best food around here, a few restaurants come to mind.
• What would you like to have for lunch? 
• I am not sure, nothing's really coming to my mind.
• He's not a singer who comes to mind when you think of best singers in Korea, but He's such a brilliant singer that I have known.

 

 

"come up with"

• How did you come up with that answer.
• She's come up with some amazing scheme to make money.
